Operational Solutions
Train Systems Data Download Transport Operators increasingly want frequent access to live train systems data so that they can monitor train performance and train sub-systems status. This enables operators to pre-empt potential vehicle problems and improve their maintenance planning so delivering real reliability and operational benefits. Today, operators have to wait until the train is at the depot or perhaps in a station area before they can access this data. Using Nomad, operators can have access to this data on a continual basis. These systems are referred to differently including On Train Monitoring & Recording (OTMR), event recorders and Train Management Systems (TMS).
Track Maintenance Monitoring track quality is an expensive and time consuming process. Infrastructure operators use trains specifically designed to monitor track, and historically this data has been collected manually every 1 or 2 days. By installing the Nomad system onto these measurement trains, the track can be monitored more frequently and cheaper, so highlighting potential problems before they arise.

Fuel Efficiency Fuel is a major expense for most diesel operators. Huge savings can be made if good information is available. At a primary level the system will identify any particular driver that is not driving appropriately for the terrain and conditions and so results in poor fuel consumption. As the next stage this can become an advisory system where a real-time feedback loop is provided to drivers, this could take the form of an advisory system where the system has sufficient route knowledge that it can "recommend" traction demand levels that optimise fuel usage without compromising service delivery.

CCTV Today's modern fleets typically have CCTV both within the saloon environment as well as forward facing from the front of the vehicle. The video will be stored on a DVR on the vehicle and will be downloaded manually by an operative as and when required.
Nomad's communication platform enables the operator to download the video whilst the train is in operation. Depending on the operator's CCTV system, the user may choose to download a specific segment of video from the on-board DVR or perhaps real-time streaming of the data. This capability can used to manage real time incidents at the operator's control centre.

e-ticketing Nomad's communications platform can be used to support mobile ticketing applications. This could be the purchasing of tickets whilst on the train or the authorisation of web purchased tickets to prevent fraud.

Fleet Location Operators need to manage incidents quickly and effectively as they arise in order to minimise service disruption, passenger inconvenience and any potential fines arising. Nomad is able to track the location of each vehicle in a fleet using GPS technology and present this to the end users through Google Maps.
